He previously played for the Penrith Panthers in the National Rugby League (NRL). Sammut has represented Malta at international level in both rugby league and rugby union. ==Early career== Jarrod Sammut was born in Blacktown, New South Wales, a western suburb of Sydney. He played school football and was educated at Patrician Brothers' College Blacktown and played junior football for Doonside Roos.
